FAQs

  • Where is Immanuel Lutheran Church Located?

Immanuel is located at 351 Wilson Street in Alpena, just north of the intersection of US-23 N and Johnson Street. There are entrances to our parking lot off of US-23 N and Wilson Street.

  • When are worship services held?

Worship services are held every Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and every Sunday at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. In addition to our regular worship services, we hold many special services throughout the church year.

  • How early should I get there?

If you’re a first-time visitor, we recommend getting to church 15-20 minutes early so that you can sit wherever is most comfortable for you.

  • What should I wear?

Come as you are! You won’t feel out-of-place at Immanuel. Most people tend to wear business casual.

  • What is a church service like?

Services at Immanuel follow the order of service that you will find in our bulletins and on the screens in the sanctuary. While the content of each service changes from week to week, the core elements—confession and absolution, Bible readings, hymns, a sermon, and prayers—are always there. Hymns at Immanuel are accompanied by either an organ or piano.

  • What is Holy Communion?

Holy Communion—also called the Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper—is a sacrament of the church first instituted by Jesus Christ and celebrated by Christians ever since. As Lutherans, we believe that His body and blood are truly present in the bread and wine we serve at the altar. All confirmed members of Immanuel or another congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod are welcome to participate. If you have questions, feel free to ask one of the pastors or ushers before the service starts.

  • Do you have Bible studies?

Yes! There are typically a few different Bible studies going on at any given time at Immanuel. Please check our calendar for more information.

What We Believe

Saved through Christ

Immanuel is a church that believes that all of us are dearly loved children of God.

Jesus Christ—the only begotten Son of God—lived, died, and was raised from the dead to save us from sin, restoring our relationship with God and enabling us to live lives of discipleship, repentance, and thanksgiving.

We are part of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. We understand our faith through the confessions of Martin Luther and other great reformers in his tradition.
